Improvement in skill levels expected

The National Quality Council (NQC) endorsed the new training package in November 2006. The review was undertaken in response to the Commonwealth Government's commitment to continuous improvement in the developing the national training system. This includes, in particular, encouraging more industry involvement in influencing competency-based training outcomes. The two key benefits expected from this policy are an improvement in Australia's skills pool and competitiveness, and an improvement in the performance of training providers to servicing the needs of individual businesses. The revised Generation Industry Training Package is expected to facilitate further development of a more flexible workforce capable of meeting the changing needs of the industry, and reflects rapidly-changing technology innovations.
