Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro has ordered state-owned PdV to undergo a radical overhaul to eradicate mismanagement and corruption, which he says is responsible for the firm’s operational problems. Maduro on 23 November accused his political opponents of conspiring to cripple PdV’s refineries, most recently in September, although he provided no evidence to back up his claims. The company has been “infiltrated by corruption and treason”, he says. Output and exports will rise when the government joins forces with PdV’s employees in an extensive review, Maduro says.
