Venezuelan state-owned oil company PdV will partner with Chinese companies to build three new coal and petroleum coke-fired power plants in Venezuela with a combined initial capacity of 900MW. Details of eight oil, power, petrochemicals and mining agreements that energy minister Rafael Ramirez signed in Beijing on 30 November have not been disclosed in Caracas. Local Chinese diplomatic officials also declined to comment. But an energy ministry official told Argus that one of the eight agreements calls for building Venezuela’s first-ever coal and petroleum coke-fired power plants in conjunction with China-based companies from 2013 to 2017.
