Bills approving repair projects and spending on inland water- ways are awaiting approval by the US House of Representa- tives. The House on 26 May voted down a waterways and energy appropriations bill after an amendment introduced by a Democrat that prohibited federal contractors from discriminat- ing on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identify was attached. Democrats voted against the broader bill because of other provisions, while conservative Republicans objected to the sexual orientation language.
