County denies ExxonMobil oil trucking plan

Officials in Santa Barbara county, California, have denied ExxonMobil’s request to quickly truck offshore California crude production around a broken section of pipeline, a decision the oil major warned could shut in oil and natural gas production. The disruption had already reduced rates for at least one California refiner. ExxonMobil failed to support the argument that its request to use tanker truck to move crude from its Las Flores processing facility to sites normally served by a Plains All American pipeline was because of an emergency that merited expedited consideration, the county’s planning and development department said yesterday in a response letter.
