Regulatory uncertainty hits Indonesian coal prices

Uncertainty over new Indonesian coal export regulations is encouraging producers to sell stocks of mid calorific-value coal at below market prices before the new rules take effect, possibly as soon as 1 September. The Indonesian government is introducing the measures in an attempt to enforce royalty payments and tackle illegal coal mining. It will require sellers to meet all royalty obligations and hold all required documentation before coal shipments can be made.
