WOMEN BUILDING FUTURES: WORK PROUD

Traditionally, construction has not been a field known to entice many women. Times are changing. Through government, industry, and organizations, like Women Building Futures, (WBF), there is a growing commitment to increasing women's representation in non-traditional roles. Their mandate is to increase the number of women in Canada's construction and maintenance industry. WBF was founded in 1998 by a small group of women in Edmonton who were social workers. WBF really took off in 2006 when they purchased an old warehouse in downtown Edmonton and over the course of two years, renovated it into Canada's first trades training facility for women.
