Indian coal imports drop in September

India’s coal imports in September fell by 27pc compared with a year earlier to 12.6mn t as state-controlled producer Coal India (CIL) boosted output. September’s decline is the third-consecutive month that coal shipments to India have fallen and marks a 30pc decline against a year earlier in value terms compared with a year earlier, coal secretary Anil Swarup said. He did not provide a breakdown between thermal coal and coking coal imports during the month.
