BP Whiting heavy crude runs grow

Higher production at BP’s 410,000 b/d Whiting, Indiana, refinery partially offset significantly weaker refining margins for the company in the second quarter. Heavy crude runs at Whiting peaked at 270,000 b/d during the second quarter, up from 200,000 b/d at the end of the first quarter. Whiting’s largest crude unit was off line in the second quarter last year as part of a major modernisation project adding a 102,000 b/d coker in order to increase heavy crude processing.
