Klesse: Atlantic closures boosting Gulf

Refinery closures in the Atlantic basin region have helped to double refining margins on the US Gulf coast during the first quarter of 2012, Valero chief executive Bill Klesse said. Planned or completed shutdowns of 1mn b/d of refining capacity serving the Atlantic basin, export demand and op- erational and crude pricing advantages had given the US Gulf coast significant edge on the world products market, Klesse told analysts at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Refining Conference.
