Alcoa coke, pitch costs dip in 3Q

Lower aluminum prices and slower demand growth weighed on Alcoa in the third quarter, even as lower petroleum coke and pitch prices partially offset higher alumina costs for the primary metals segment. Alcoa and its subsidiaries produced 938,000mt of aluminum in the third quarter, down 2.7pc from the year-ago quarter, at an average realized price of $2,222/mt, down 17.4pc from a year earlier. Unfavorable currency rates also dented earnings.
