From 4Q84 onwards, prices refer to the second month of the quarter. Prior to 4Q84, prices refer to the first month of each quarter. See individual products for details. The corresponding amounts are included in the ex-tax price shown, except for automotive diesel and gasoline, where they are shown separately. The Japanese government only publishes official prices for gasoline and kerosene and only for the Tokyo area based on a survey carried out by the Management Coordination Agency. The Bank of Japan surveys and publishes price indices for various kinds of oil products.
