NOTES ON DEFINITIONS OF NATURAL GAS TRADED INTERNATIONALLY

Import prices have been derived from customs statistics reported by the member countries to Eurostat. The import values reported by the Member countries are in thousand EUR, imported quantities are reported in thousand tonnes. The IEA has converted these data from thousand EUR to US dollars/MBtu, using average energy conversion factors for natural gas. The derived import price merely gives an indication of the average import cost rather than a precise and exact import price. Please note that for some countries (e.g. Germany) there is no breakdown available by origin.
