Velocity profile for elevator floors

Improving the operation of elevator doors is one solution to increasing the quality of service of elevator systems. Quickening door opening and closing velocity would reduce passenger travel time, thereby increasing comfort. However, door velocity should be slow to ensure safety. Therefore, the provision of safer and more comfortable elevator doors seems contradictory. To balance these two factors, we have proposed and developed a new useful design method of door-velocity profile. The value of a free design parameter was altered leading to the discovery of a singular point" in the profile. In the proposed design method, high safe and high comfortable elevator doors can be easily achieved by adjusting the free design parameter so that the door velocity at the singular point reaches optimum velocity. This paper introduces a new door-velocity profile design method that improves both the safety and comfort of elevators.
