Chapter 4: The car door & the door operator

In a previous article, we examined how the Lift Directive gives the requirements for landing doors to prevent the risk of fall into the shaft. This is listed among the Hazards to persons outside the Car (Annex I, Clause 2). Now, just consider to enter the car of a modern lift provided with horizontally sliding automatic doors (in this article I will only deal with this type of doors, which are the most common), and how this simple movement is one of those we do daily, and how it may have highly technical and safety implications.
