Crabs are typical marine creatures and don't survive m for long without . water. But in some of the world's hottest deserts and rainforests, species of land crabs have left the sea far behind and evolved to breathe air.One species in particular, the desert crab Holthuisana trans versa, has found a way to survive in the most extreme conditions: the middle of the Australian outback. As biologists keen to know everything about the world's land crabs, this is where we began our study. And we learned the hard way that our most indispensable article of field gear would be a pair of pyjamas.
