Two U.S. House Bills Aim to Eliminate, Reform RFS-2

A bipartisan group of U.S. House of Representatives on April 10 introduced two bills: one that would effectively eliminate the federal Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS-2) and another that would alter several components of the biofuel mandate. Introduced by Reps. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), Jim Costa (D-Calif.), Steve Womack (R-Ark.) and Peter Welch (D- Vt.), the first, RFS Reform Act, “eliminates corn-based ethanol requirements, caps the amount of ethanol that can be blended into conventional gasoline at 10% and requires the [U.S. Environmental Protection Agency) to set cellulosic-biofuels levels at production levels,” according to a statement issued by Goodlatte’s office.
