With a new developed method for the first time the optimum design of transverse flux induction heaters is possible. Generally, transverse flux induction heating offers a variety of advantages heating thin metal strip in comparison to e. g. Gas-fired heating. Even for metals of high electrical conductivity, such as aluminium, brass and precious metal, a very high electrical efficiency can be reached. In particular, the temperature distribution in the strip can be adjusted freely as wished. Because of the complicated design transverse flux induction heaters are not wide spread. But by means of the new method, a coupling of three-dimensional calculations and optimisation algorithms, now best results can be reached in minimum time and at low cost.
