Putting green firmness, smoothness, pace, and turf reliability are largely influenced by soil moisture content.Too little or too much moisture often leads to poor putting conditions and compromised turf health over time. Superintendents in the Northeastern United States face this reality often. Saturated soils and high air temperatures may cause rapid root mortality and turf decline, but too littlemoisture for just a few hours can be lethal to swards of annual bluegrass (meadow-grass) putting surfaces.
