The Irish Open can trace its origins back to 1927 and is currently the only European Tour event held in Ireland.The 72-hole competition has been played in many locations, most of these in the Republic of Ireland and on some of the most prestigious courses throughout its history. For many years it was associated with Woodbrook and Portmarnock, both in Dublin and in2011 was played at the Killarney Golf & Fishing Club in County Kerry. The event was last played in Northern Ireland in 1953 at Belvoir Park, Belfast and at Royal Portrush in 1947, where Harry Bradshaw won the title.
