Whether redeveloping an existing site, building a new facility or undertaking a major playing surface renovation it is critical for the success of a project to have a well thought out plan.This plan may be straightforward, such as defining the key objectives of the project, what operations are going to be carried out and a timeline for the completion of the work. This would be typical of the planning process for the renovation of an existing surface. For larger scale projects, such as constructing a new pitch or redeveloping an existing surface, a greater level of detail is required for the planning process, with the work often carried out over multiple stages. The objective of this article is to highlight some of the key steps in planning andsuccessfully carrying out large scale projects. For this article the example of constructing a new football pitch on an existing site will be used to illustrate some of the key points raised.
