USDA: Moderate U.S. Corn Demand, ‘Small’ Ethanol Growth Projected in Next Decade

Rebounding from a drought-stricken 2012 crop, resulting in declining prices and increased domestic use and exports in the 2013/2014 season, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) forecasts “moderate growth demand” for U.S. corn over the next decade, noting that “further expansion is slowing,” according to its latest 10-year outlook report released February 13. The USDA’s latest report, entitled “USDA Agricultural Projections to 2023,” is published annually and was prepared during October through December 2013, with the 2008 Farm Act assumed to be extended and remain in effect through the projection period. Therefore, the projections don’t reflect the recently passed Agricultural Act of 2014.
