Ineos New Planet BioEnergy Completes Construction on First Cellulosic Ethanol Biorefinery in U.S.

Construction on the first commercial-scale cellulosic ethanol production unit in the U.S. has been completed in Vero Beach, Fla., with production expected to begin in the second half of this year, reported Platts in a July 23 report. The project – dubbed the Indian River BioEnergy Center – is being carried out by INEOS New Planet BioEnergy LLC, a joint venture between Switzerland-based Ineos and U.S.-based New Planet Energy. Once operational, the facility is expected to produce 8 million gallons of cellulosic ethanol and 6 megawatts of renewable power annually from local yard, vegetative and municipal solid waste streams.
