At the American Chemical Society’s (ACS) 245th National Meeting & Exposition held in New Orleans, La. from April 7 to 11, a team of scientists at the University of Bristol (U.K.) reported the discovery of a new family of catalysts that can upgrade ethanol into butanol. “These new catalysts are much better than any previously in existence,” said Duncan Wass, lead on the project, in a statement prepared by the ACS.
