EU Parliament Committee Stalls EU Biofuels

A proposal to limit Europe’s use of food-based fuel crops was stalled by a 34-18 vote within the Members of the European Parliament’s (MEP) Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee (ENVI) on October 17, making it unlikely anything will be decided before 2015. The draft legislation, formulated in September, would’ve placed a 6% cap on the use of “first-generation” food-based and land-based biofuels under the EU’s Renewable Energy Directive (RED) to be used in the country’s 2020 transport fuel mix (See Ethanol & Biofuels News on 9/18/2013).
