FEATURE: Purdue Researchers Explore Poplars as Biofuel Feedstock

The viability of poplar trees as a biofuel feedstock and cash crop is being examined as part of a five-year study currently underway at Purdue University, in Westville, Indiana. A team of researchers led by Rick Meilan, associate professor of forestry and natural resources, began working on the study in May. Trial plots at Pinney-Purdue Agricultural Center east of Valparaiso and Southwest-Purdue Agricultural Center just north of Vincennes are included in the study, the university reported in an October 20 announcement.
