A mandate that requires a 2% biodiesel blend in New York City's heating oil was officially launched on October 1, the National Biodiesel Board (NBB) confirmed. The biodiesel blend of heating oil – coined "Bioheat" – is gaining traction in Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic states as an alternative "green" means for lowering the carbon footprint in home heating applications, according to the NBB.
