This article will introduce a model for predicting diffraction loss from arbitrary numbers of equal height parallel buildings by using the uniform theory of diffraction in urban environments. Some recent works have focused on plane-wave approximation rather than spherical-wave assumption. Even though this may be correct in macrocells, for microcells, generally, the transmitter is located near the buildings; consequently, this approximation may not be valid any more. Accordingly, in this article, we used spherical-wave assumption for calculating diffraction loss in microcells. Also, the results obtained from measurements elsewhere are compared with the results obtained in this article, and it was shown that good agreement between the proposed model data and the experimental results exist. Therefore, the proposed model can find application in the development of theoretical models for predicting more realistic path loss in cellular mobile communications.
