Even though GPRS reuses many of the components of a traditional GSM network, the radio components of the GPRS network as well as the mobile stations will require upgrades to support this new technology. The fundamentals of the radio interface, such as time division multiplexing and frequency assignment are preserved to allow GPRS and GSM to coexist on the same network.
