Network processors -the building blocks of next-generation networking

With a large number of processor types within their technology arsenal, the adoption by Motorola of C-Port's C5 network processor, was a recognition that just increasing the interconnect bandwidth of the wire or fibre-optic is not the single solution to the problems of increasing network performance. This feature discusses the architecture of the C5 network processor and its role in future high performance network system designs and in that way the reason for its choice by Motorola.
