A study has been made of a leaching process toremove iron from quartziferous industrial minerals using oxalicand sulphuric acid in a drum reactor. The experimental work wasnecessary because of the paucity of literature on the use of oxalicacid in the treatment of industrial minerals containing iron as aimpurity. The positive effect of oxalic on the iron extraction yieldis clearly observed during leaching in a drum reactor. Ironextraction yield of 35-45% are obtained on treating the quartzwith 3 kg/t oxalic acid and 2 kg/t sulphuric acid at 90o C for 4-5h.Under the same conditions but without oxalic the iron extractionyield ranges from 3 to 9%, depending on the sulphuric acidcontent. Chemical and mineralogical analyses were run on theore to ascertain where the iron compounds occur on the differentmineral components.
