In spherical agglomeration of coal, oil-extendedflotation of minerals and other fields such as sintering, particlesmay aggregate through the formation of a liquid bridge betweenthem. The stability of the bridge is important to the mechanicalstrength of the aggregate. In this paper, work on the stability ofliquid bridges between spheres is reviewed and a criterion forliquid bridge rupture distance is proposed. The novelty of thepresent criterion is the elimination of the necessity of solving theLaplace-Young equation, a very complicated process necessaryfor determining rupture distance in most existing criteria.
