Working with SQPs: opportunities for a team approach

TWO-AND-A-HALF years ago the Veterinary Medicines Regulations introduced new medicines distribution categories and new rules for supply. The Regulations are revised and updated each year, and continue to evolve. Here, Phil Sketchley takes a fresh lookat who can do what in the new medicines supply environment. A GROWING part of the veterinary environment is the new generation of professional suitably qualified persons (SQPs), replete with new university-accredited qualifications and legally compul-sory CPD, who are able to supply veterinary medicines. Increasing numbers of veterinary practices are employing or training SQPs, as are increasing numbers of pet shops as well as the more tradi tional SQP outlets such as country stores. This reflects theincreasing 'team' approach to farm and com panion health care, reflected in initiatives such as positive farm health planning.
