Performing prepurchase examinations (PPEs) for potential purchasers is a common undertaking in equine practice. It can, however, be a bit like negotiating a minefield in terms of declaring conflicts of interests with vendors and ensuring that, as the veterinary surgeon, you always work in the best interests of the purchaser. This article provides advice on how to handle a PPE when both the purchaser and vendor are clients, and explains how to perform and write up a PPE.
