摘要

It is with great pride that we welcome our readers to the new A4 format for the International Journal of Developmental Disabilities (IJDD). Indeed, not only have the physical dimensions of the journal size increased but also the number of pages per issue have increased. Moreover, from 2014 the number of issues will increase from three to four per year, allowing us to publish more high quality articles. The journal clearly continues to thrive and improve after its move to Maney publishing. Moreover, we are greatly encouraged by the response to our very first special issue last year on Autism phenotypes and developmental profiles guest that was edited by Kim Cornish. This issue focused on the effects of autism in early childhood and included articles on literacy skills of nonverbal children with autism, the association between the severity of autism symptomatology and emotion recognition. As a consequence of this success, we are now planning a thematic special issue for each year and each to be guest edited by world-renowned experts in the field - without wanting to reveal too much too soon, the next special issue is well on its way with a second one in advanced planning. These special issues will be in addition to the three issues of regular Research Articles and Points of View papers that the journal has been publishing for the last 50 years (from 1952 to 2011 as the British Journal of Developmental Disabilities - founded by Dr H. C. Gunzburg and since 2012 as the International Journal of Developmental Disabilities) as well as book reviews of the latest relevant new books.
