Vulvo-vaginal-gingival syndrome of lichen planus.

Lichen planus (LP) is a mucocutaneous dermatosis characterized by the presence of sharply demarcated violaceous plaques and flat-topped papules on the skin. On mucous membranes, such as oral cavity or penile surface, LP lesions tend to appear as reticulated white plaques. In contrast to penile lesions, vulvar involvement of LP has rarely been reported.1 Vulvo-vaginal-gingival syndrome is a unique variant of mucosal LP characterized by erosions and desqua-mation of the vulva, vagina and gingiva. In 1989, Monique described 19 patients affected with this entity and described their clinical futures.2 Each of the patients demonstrated erosive lesions of some combination of vulva, vaginal or gingival lesions; however, often only one or two of the three areas were involved.
