The collembolan species Microgastrura minutissima (Mills) was collected from several fungal species in Chiba and Nagano prefectures of Japan. This study is the first record of the genus Microgastrura Stach from Japan. Genomic DNA sequences of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (COI) gene were partially determined as DNA barcodes.
