Cuadrilla Starts Drilling at UK Shale Site

UK shale explorer Cuadrilla has started drilling at its first pilot well at the Preston New Road site in Lancashire, northwestern England, the company confirmed, after months of sabotage and environmental protests. The well will be drilled vertically to a depth of 3,500 meters, where samples of the shale rock will be taken at various levels, a Cuadrilla spokesman told Oil Daily. Horizontal wells will then be drilled at depths of 2,000-3,500 meters.
