Show and tell: ITS International reports on new developments and products from the recent Intertraffic and ITS America gatherings

Following in quick succession, the 2006 Intertraffic Exhibition in Amsterdam. The Netherlands, and the 2006 ITS America Annual Meeting, in Philadelphia, USA, highlighted emerging issues and groundbreaking products in key ITS application areas including safety and traffic management. Both events also saw accolades given for major achievements in transport technology (see panel p26). Catastrophe response understandably provided a major theme at the ITS America Annual Meeting, where several sessions covered prediction and management of natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina, which devastated New Orleans in 2005. The Meeting's Public Safety Track dealt with emergency evacuation and public communication issues, and included a case study from Houston, Texas.
