Terminal-free technology: EASTERN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES ARE DEPLOYING MOBILE PHONE-BASED PAYMENT THAT BYPASSES STANDARD EQUIPMENT

In the Eastern European republic of Croatia, which has been independent since 1991, car ownership has historically been low because of a post-World War Two history of Communist rule. The need for parking control is thus a relatively new phenomenon, resulting from recent economic liberalisation. The metropolitan region of Zagreb, the capital, currently has nearly 1.1 million inhabitants, the highest population density in the country. Parking here is the responsibility of Zagreparking, a private company wholly owned by the City Council.
