A field investigation was conducted during pre kharif, kharif and rabi 2012-13 on sandy clay loam soils of Agricultural College Farm, Naira to find out the effect of pre kharif crops on productivity and profitability of different rice based cropping systems. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with four replications and seven treatments. Significant differences were noticed with pre kharif crops on yield attributes and yield of rice and yield of rice fallow blackgram. Significantlysuperior performance of rice was observed for all these parameters with sunnhemp, while greengram was the next best treatment. The seed yield of rice fallow blackgram was significantly superior with sunnhemp (382 kg ha~(-1)). Although highest net returns ha~(-1) (Rs 73238 ha~(-1)), system productivity (9265 kg ha~(-1)), production efficiency (33.33 kg ha~(-1) day1) and profitability (201.20 Rs ha~(-1) day1) was recorded with bhendi-rice-rice fallow blackgram, the returns per rupee invested were highestwith sunnhemp-rice-rice fallow blackgram (2.52) and hence was suggested for North Coastal Zone of Andhra Pradesh.
