摘要

This study was conducted to determine the fatty acid profile of marine fishes found in coastal waters of Veraval (Gujarat). The fish species Carcharhinus limbatus (Black tip shark) and Dasyatis zugai (Sting ray) were studied in comparison with Gadus morh.ua (Sea cod) for their liver oil fatty acid composition. The isolation, identification and characterization of these liver oil fatty acids were carried out by Gas Chromatography Mass Spectroscopy (GCMS). A variation was observed in fatty acid profilebetween black tip shark, sting ray and sea cod liver oil. 28 individual fatty acids from the oil of marine fishes were analyzed among those the saturated fatty acid was stearic and palmitic acid was the major constituent. Among mono unsaturated fatty acids oleic and palmitoleic acids were the major constituents. In addition to that polyunsaturated fatty acid eicosapentaenoic and dihomo-gama-linolenic acid were also recorded. It can be concluded that these liver oils are a potential resource for omega 3, 6, 7 and 9 especially can be used for therapeutic use.
