Air Pollutant Concentrations Downwind of a Phosphate Fertilizer Factory

This study reports the ambient air concentrations of fluoride, sulphur dioxide and particulate matter (TSP) downwind of a phosphate fertilizer factory. The study area was divided into four zones and three sites wereselected in each zone. Air monitoring was done at each site with respect to HF, SO_2 and total suspended participates (TSP), The results indicated that the concentrations of both SO_2 and HF were maximumduring winter and that of the TSPduring summer. Year wise variations in pollutant concentrations were not significant. The measured maximum concentrations were 6.8, 190 and 916 μg m~(-3) for HF, SO2 and TSP. For HF, 5% of the 2-hourly concentration r ecor ds exceeded 6 μg m~(-3) and for SO_2 only 2% of the values exceeded 200 μg m~(-3).Concentrations of all the three pollutants were maximum at zone I situated close to the emission source.
