Biology of the Cornelian; Deudorix epijarbas Moore on Pomegranate

The data generated from the life cycles of two generations of Deudorix epijarbas under laboratory conditions revealed a distinct variation in various developmental stages. The freshly light green eggs, round in shape with flat base were laid either singly or in groups of 2-10. A female laid an average of 24.7+1.88 and 21.3+2.11 eggs in the Is1 and 2nd generations, respectively. The incubation period, larval (five instars) and pupal periods were 8.0±0.44, 28.7±1.52 and 9.2±1.00 days, respectively in the 1st generation and 9.8±0.40, 36.9±1.68 and 224.6±1.39 days, respectively in the 2nd generation. The pre-oviposition period, oviposition period and post-oviposition period was 3.7±0.48 and 3.9±0.31 days; 3.9±0.31 and 3.4±0.98 days; 5.3±0.82 and3.5±1.13 days in the Is1 and 2nd generations, respectively. The brick red males were smaller in size in wing expanse and shorter in body length than the females. The longevity of male and female was 8.8±1.28 and 12.9+0.96 days in the Is'generation, respectively, while in the 2nd generation it was 7.4±1.04 and 10.8±1.13 days, respectively. The ratio of female: male was 60.32: 39.68 (1.52: 1) during Is' generation and almost the same trend was observed for 2nd generation where in females outnumberedthe males with a ratio of 53.84: 46.15 (1.16:1).
