Rural migrations in Iran - causes of reverse migrations (Case study: Golmakan rural District in Chenaran County)

Rural-urban migration has always been an interesting subject for intellectuals of different sciences. After consecutive rural to urban migration, nowadays we are witnessing the return of urban citizens to rural areas, which has increased exponentiallyin recent years. The objective of the present study was to investigate causes and motivations of reverse migration to villages of Golmakan rural district in Chenaran County. This was a descriptive-analytical study with applied results. Sample size determination for collecting data from the studied villages was performed using Krejcie and Morgan table, in which 40 families migrating to four sample villages of this rural district were studied. The results showed that various factors are involved in reverse migrations, among which the most important factors are occupation, low living costs of rural life, and indigenous attachment. Finally, solutions and strategies were proposed for economic development of this rural district.
