An economic analysis of Okra cultivation in Jammu district of J & K State, India

An investigation entitled "An Economic Analysis of okra Cultivation in Jammu district of J&K State" was conducted in R. S. Pura block of Jammu district where okra was cultivated during the agricultural year 2012-13. From the said development block, six villages were selected randomly. Further, from each village, 10 farmers were selected randomly, so as to constitute a total sample size of 60 farm households cultivating okra. Primary data on costs & returns of the crop were collected by interviewing the farmers through personal visits with the help of an especially structured and pre-tested schedule. The per hectare cost C_2 of cultivation of okra was Rs. 44000.73 on sampled farms. The cost A, constituted all direct cost was Rs. 16579.92/hectare on sampled farms. The cost A_2 constituted was Rs. 26579.92/hectare on sampled farms. The cost B_1 constituted was Rs. 18149.60/hectare on sampled farms. The cost B_2 constituted was Rs. 42240.23/ hectare on sampled farms. The cost C_1 constituted was Rs. 19910.10/hectare on sampled farms. The gross return was Rs. 112500/hectare on sampled farms. The net return was Rs. 68499.27/hectare on sampled farms. The cost benefit ratio was 2.56.
