Coral reef condition of Bunaken National Park (BNP) - Indonesia

A study on coral reef conditions in Bunaken National Park area was done using a manta tow method around the most part of the marine park and a line intercept transect method, especially in Bunaken Island, Poopoh and Arakan. Based Manta Tow Tecnique showed that the general condition of the coral reefs was Fair with an average cover of 25.75 % - 46.67 %, except that of Arakan had only a hard coral cover of 3.11% and thus was categorized as poor. Based Line Intercept Transect, there were 26 lifeform categories recorded at 3 M deep and 25 categories at 10 M deep, was dominated by biotic categories. Based on the categories suggested by Yap and Gomes (1994), Good Condition was recorded in East Bunaken Island at 3 M and 10 M deep and South Bunaken Island II at 10 M deep. Fair condition in North Bunaken Island at 10 M deep, South Bunaken Island at 3 M and 10 M deep, South Bunaken Island II at 3 M deep. West Bunaken island at 3 M and 10 M deep, and Poopoh Village at 3 M and 10 M deep. Poor Condition in North Bunaken Island at 3 M deep.
