摘要

The The studies on physico-chemical characteristics of Kamla water at Jainagar, Bihar was carried out from July, 2008 to June, 2009 with reference to its pollution status. It has been concluded that the water supply from this river is fit for industrial as well as irrigation purposes, but it is not safe for drinking and bathing purposes. Kamla River is one of the thirteen rivers of Bihar. The Kamla takes its rise in the Nepal territory from the Mahabhartha ranges of Himalayas and enters into the territory of the Indian union at Jainagar (25.5 -26.0 deg N latitude and 85.5 - 86.0 deg E longitude). This river is drained by the river Kosi and its major tributaries are Soni, Dhori and Balan rivers. The river is used mainly for collection of sand from the bed, traditional fishing, irrigation and horticulture. Rivers are the most important water resource in the world in general and in India in particular.
