Printing is a very dynamic process within which short timescales predomi-nantly control runnability and print qual-ity.The coating formulator today must tailor make liquid absorption and spreading properties.When a finite amount of liquid contacts a porous surface two competing mecha-nisms start to act:spreading on the ex-posed surface and penetration into the porous structure(Fig.1).The right bal-ance between spreading and penetra-tion/absorption influences whether the desired process will be successful or not.Practically,this balance is not easy to achieve as the distribution and wet ad-hesion of the fluid phase on the solid are determined by many factors:
