The application of biocides and deposit dispersants to control microbiological activity in the paper process ensures the machine runnability, without any doubt. Nevertheless their influence on the anaerobic effluent clarification process is in question. To clarify these effects, a six month diploma thesis at the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt, Germany, has been started with Darmstadt University (PMV), SCA Packaging GmbH in Aschaffenburg, Germany, and Kolb, Switzerland, as project partners. The defined aim of the project was to evaluate the influence of chemical additives (commercial products and active substances) on the anaerobic clarification process.
